About Taylor Cascino

As a leader of the Penpod workouts, Taylor's hard work ethic and near perfect workout attendance have inspired a high level of fitness amongst Jam's athletes. In addition to his leadership at Burlingame High, he's also managed to transform himself from the slightly overweight and out of shape player he was in May into one of the fitter athletes in the game, and recently grew a beard in hopes of being mistaken for teammate Bart Watson. He's been struggling to rediscover the focus and play-making abilities he once harnessed as young college phenom but is nonetheless a force to be reckoned with on both defense and offense.

In September, Taylor attended a lecture about sleep and its importance in regards to athletic performance given by renowned expert, Dr. William Dement. He has since constantly preached its importance to the team, although some players still remain skeptical.

Taylor is also an advocate of being barefoot and has been known to be barefoot in his YouTube office and along the sidewalks and stores of San Francisco. This inclination was inspired by the proclaimed physiological benefits in the book Born To Run. As the cool-down leader of Jam, Taylor will often permit extra time so that players are able to take their cleats off before the jog down.

Ultimate Career

Black Tide (2000-2003) Condors (2001-2005) Justice League (2006) Jam (2007-present) Ono (2006-2009)

Taylor began his competitive ultimate career as a freshman in the fall of 1999 with UC Santa Barbara's Black Tide. He quickly put his athletic gifts to work and was one of the only rookies to make the A squad in the 99-00 season, making his UPA series debut in the Spring of 2000. The importance of his role on the semifinalist team can be summarized with a quote from then captain Tommy Burfiend: "I know you're only a rookie but we're riding on your shoulders to Nationals." 1. In the 2001 season, Taylor continued his dominance of college ultimate and many of his great plays can be seen in the documentary on that year’s team, I Bleed Black. In this documentary, Taylor was quoted saying ultimate Frisbee was his favorite thing about college. In his senior year, Taylor captained the Tide and was nominated as a candidate for the Callahan award by the southwest regional coordinator (per tradition, the Black Tide never nominates its players).

As a club player, Taylor has two national championships. In 2001, he threw the game-winning and only upwind goal to defeat Jam 17-15 in finals of Club Nationals. He also won with Jam in 2008.

In the off-season, Taylor has played at Kaimana with Ono since 2006. In 2007, he helped put together a new roster of players for the struggling Ono team. The revamped 2007 lineup would eventually win, defeating the defending champions of 6 years in finals, and also defeating the 2nd and 3rd seeds in route. In a post tourney email summarizing the accomplishments of the team, Taylor noted that although he'd been a part of more prestigious tournament wins, he'd never been a part of a bigger long-shot. It has been rumored that Taylor will be stepping down from the helm of Ono in 2010.
